Greetings Legionnaires,

Each Sunday a different organization of our Post family including DAV and the Brothers of Six put on a breakfast, usually from 9:00 to 11:00. Please come out and enjoy a great breakfast and camaraderie with like-minded veterans and friends. Also on selected Sundays from 1130-1:00 we will have Country Line dancing going until after the Super Bowl. This is along with our regular Monday class.

We are looking at ways to increase our fund raising and donations, and are starting with the formation of a Post revitalization Committee. They will be exploring ways we can bring more activities back to the post and ensure our business practices are not only effective but efficient as well.

Last month I asked each member that could afford it to make a one-time $100 donation to our Post renovation campaign. That “big ask” still stands. We are making progress with renovations, but we need to purchase materials, along with some professional services. Rest assured I have put a process in place to ensure that these donations will only be used for Post renovations.

If you are a regular reader of this newsletter you know I ask each month if you have the four hours a month to give to the Post? We have committees that need Chairs, and members, and I published that list in last months newsletter. If four hours is too big a commitment, then start attending regular post membership meetings. There is a lot of misinformation and rumors floating around the Post. Don’t listen to it, come to a post meeting and find out for yourself what the real story is. If you have an opinion you can voice it there, if you have an idea on how to make Post 149 a welcoming place for veterans and a provider of community services, please attend I want to hear it. The advantage is your ideas and opinions get into the minutes so I don’t forget about them.

If we can get members consistently working on the four pillars of the Legion, as well as taking care of the post itself, we will be sure we are serving Veteran’s and their families as well as the community. Currently the only support the post is providing in support of the pillars is from the Americanism committee; through the oratorical and boy/girls state events. We must get involved to the community can answer the question “What would the impact be if there was no American Legion Post in Escondido?

Yesterday we welcomed the Carpenter Union Local 619, who will be holding monthly meetings at the Post. They took a look around and got excited to work with us on several renovation projects, they will provide labor, we must provide material.
