COMMANDER | GEORGE CHRISTENSEN
Greetings Legionnaires,
Do you have a wedding coming up soon? Now is a great time to brush up on your dancing skills, by joining our Free Line Dancing class every Monday evening from 6:30 to 8:00, or maybe you are looking to add to your cardio workouts, I can tell you from personal experience Line Dancing is a workout! I have been attending since the classes started so come join us!
Each Sunday a different organization of our Post family including DAV and the Brothers of Six put on a breakfast, usually from 9:00 to 11:00. Please come out and enjoy a great breakfast and camaraderie with like-minded veterans and friends.
April the nominations for post officers started and at the May general meeting we will close nominations and hold the election of post officers. That means it is not too late to throw your hat in the ring for Commander, 1st and 2nd Vice Commander.
Watch your emails for details on the upcoming Memorial Day observance at the Post. This year promises to be extra special as we not only honor the fallen but will be celebrating our legion family as well. There will be two special displays in the hall, and the riders will be serving Hamburgers and Hot Dogs.
We are looking at ways to increase our fund raising and donations with two goals in mind. The first is completing some necessary repairs to the post, there is a kitchen project to finish, and the repair of the Women’s rest room in the hall. Both will require significant labor to accomplish. If you know of a local business that would like to become a building fund donor let us know, or contact them yourself. All donations are tax deductible and the adjutant can supply a letter for their records. Recently, we had to have the ice machine serviced, this is just one of the items that need maintenance to keep the post running. Past Commander Jen Holden is working on setting up a casino night in August, and recently when I visited some posts in Minnesota, I saw that meat raffles are very popular there. Jim Botts and I are looking into getting that started. If you have fund raising ideas bring them to a meeting so we can discuss during the Good of the Legion.
I again am asking the membership, do you have eight hours a month to give to the Post? We have committees that need Chairs, and members, and will be publishing a list soon. If eight hours is too big a commitment, donate four hours. If we can get members consistently working on the four pillars of the Legion, as well as taking care of the post itself, we will be sure we are serving Veteran’s and their families as well as the community.
Yours in Service
George T. Christensen
Commander
J.B. Clark Post 149
