COMMANDER | GEORGE CHRISTENSEN
Greetings Comrades,
December flew by faster than November, with lots of great events at the Post. The Post Christmas Party was a great time, with lots of good food at the potluck, and lots of fun with the White Elephant gift exchange.
Unit 149 Auxiliary revitalization meeting that took place on Saturday December 6th was an amazing display of present members and new members working with the District 22 Auxiliary President to get back to serving Veterans, their families and our community. The next official meeting is on the calendar for January 20th. Let’s welcome these Unit members as this is a vital part of our American Legion Family.
I want to take a moment to recognize the Brothers of Six, and how they continue to support the Post and the community. They donated 14 bikes for the kids at Interfaith along with picking up a truck load of toys for the Sierra Madre toy drive. If you attended VetFest much of the work that went into that event was made possible with the aid of Brothers of Six. I am humbled by their spirit of service.
Here are some upcoming events as we head into the new year There will be a blood drive on the 30th of December. This time of year, blood is sorely needed. I will be there to donate, how about you?
There will be a Post cleanup day coming soon as we have a large event in January to prepare for, with a large rental.
The Post will be open New Year’s Eve with Champagne toast at 9:00 PM as the ball drops in Times Square
The Post Oratorical contest will be held on January 24th at 1230. Please contact Harold Olson if you would like to volunteer to help with the event
The District Oratorical will be February 8th at the Post at 1230. We realize this is Super Bowl Sunday, but the contest should conclude before kickoff and not interrupt the traditional Pot luck.
We are also working on a date for the Four Chaplains Ceremony watch the calendar for date and time.
Now for the big news: Line Dancing Lessons at the Post starting January 5th. Lora Miller a member of Auxiliary Unit 149 will be teaching line dancing every Monday from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. There is no charge and everyone is welcome; Post members, Riders, SAL, Brothers of Six, and Unit 149 members. Also open to friends, family and prospective new members. Come join us!
Lastly, I am still recruiting for the next Post Adjutant. See my November newsletter input for details. Contact me, or the Post Adjutant if interested. For all candidates part of my screening process will be the Adjutant Cody York walking you through the computer software and databases necessary to perform the duties of the position. This will help you decide if your skills are a match.
