Thoughts on Gossip

Women always seem to be the object of finger-pointing when it comes to gossiping.  However it's a well-known, but oft-hidden fact, that men like to share tasty tidbits, too.  Sure, some women like to spill the tea about other people, but men seem to dish the dirt out differently.  Men prefer to gather in small groups to shoot the breeze about the news, old friends from school, the military, good-looking women, salaries, their bosses, or their status.  They will make fun of one another directly to the other person,s face.  Thinning hair or a spare tire around the stomach is cause for mutual laughs.  But women would never dream of confronting someone about the way they look.  Instead, they whisper to each other about such things on the sly.  Both men and women love to share a spicy bit of scandal, but regardless of gender or the reason for telling tales and talking trash about one another, gossiping is wrong.

A gossiper is someone who has or believes they have private or privileged information about someone or a  situation and reveals that information to others.  Whether you've been the subject of gossip or have babbled about someone else, the fruit of slanderous words result in broken trust, hurt feelings, and sometimes even disastrous consequences.  You can see by this that gossip is conduct unbecoming a Legion member.
